Let The Strings Speak 2021, The Past, The Present, The Future will be presented as a virtual concert streaming on August 28, 2021 at 4pm PDT.
Inspired by the ancient Egyptian harp as well as the Black fiddler of the rural Southern United States, the listener and observer is invited to participate in a musical journey and celebration of African American culture. Sisters and artistic directors Mona Terry and Lesa Terry create new work carved from a historical past and reimagined for contemporized societies.
The ancient harp allows the listener to be fully immersed in a musical experience fashioned for the present moment, offering to humanity a path for acceptance and support of one another. The Black fiddler says, “I am the voice of Africa in the Americas.” The strings vibrate with an ancestral memory of rhythm, of wholeness fortified by an indomitable spirit of continuance.
The concert features original works specifically inspired around the concepts of the Egyptian harp, the Black fiddler, and a celebration of culture. Also featured is a nine-piece string ensemble, a rhythm section comprised of piano, bass, and percussion, spoken word renderings, a vocal/guitar soloist, and participation by our youth.
